AVI Releases Outcomes of the 2nd Seminar on Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022: Preparation and Ways Forward for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits

Oct. 10 – On 7 October 2022, Mekong Centre for Strategic Studies (MCSS) of the Asian Vision Institute (AVI), with the support from the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, organised the 2nd seminar series on “Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022: Preparation and Ways Forward for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits” in a hybrid format. More than 50 participants from Senate, National Assembly, Cambodian government ministries, foreign embassies in Phnom Penh, NGOs, think tanks, academic institutions, scholars, experts, and students in the country attended the event.

“The seminar mainly highlighted Cambodia’s achievements and challenges in the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM). Despite facing challenges, Cambodia, as the ASEAN chair managed to conclude the AMM with fruitful and successful outcomes including the adoption of the 55th Joint Communique. This has brought about admiration and a positive image for Cambodia in the region and beyond. In addition to the 55th AMM, Cambodia will host the upcoming ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in November this year. The panellists also exchanged their views on some of the top agendas that will be discussed during those high-level meetings, their expected outcomes, as well as opportunities and challenges for Cambodia in her mandate as the ASEAN chair. In this timely and relevant seminar, the panellists also suggested practical inputs and recommendations for the kingdom to successfully handle its chairmanship,” according to the AVI’s outcomes seen by Fresh News on Monday (Oct 10).
