By BONG Chansambath*, MA in Security Studies

The Quad—short for Quadrilateral Security Dialogue—is a loose strategic coalition of four countries in the Indo-Pacific region that includes the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. Although the group says it works to promote democracy, maritime security, and freedom of navigation, its real intention is to coordinate joint responses to China. This article examines the positive and negative implications that the first Quad summit held on 12th March has on Southeast Asia.
