Seasoned president helms Asian Vision Institute

The Asian Vision Institute (AVI), a renowned independent think tank based in Phnom Penh, marked five years of successful academic contributions in various sectors in Cambodia yesterday and, at the same time, officially welcomed its new president, who revealed the priorities for his tenure leading the organisation.

The Asian Vision Institute had a humble beginning with only 13 people in January 2019, to promote inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable societies in Asia. By the end of 2023, the think tank has 38 staff members and six centres. Over the years, it has worked on numerous projects in support of governments and civil society as a leading academic institution in Asia to fulfil its original mission and promote Asian wisdom and perspective, as well as the value of humanity, peace, and cultural diversity in the region.

The AVI’s annual meeting at the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel yesterday not only concluded the thriving five years but also saw its new president, Chheng Kimlong, officially handed the presidency, succeeding the previous president, Chheang Vannarith.

Kimlong said that AVI has walked quite a long way from its humble creation in playing its roles in the region.

According to Kimlong, since 2019, the institution has published 242 documents, including commentaries, perspectives, policy briefs, magazines, newsletters, and books. In 2023 alone, AVI published 41 publications, including 18 commentaries, three perspectives, three policy briefs, one series, two magazines, 12 newsletters, and two books.
